File Dialog Windows

File Dialog Windows

A File Dialog window allows you to choose a file from a file directory. Other names for this type of window are File Selector/Chooser, file requester, or open and save dialogs.

In DataSight you will use a File Dialog for a number of reasons.  These include:

  • Selecting a file to import data
  • Selecting a file to import as a document
  • Adding a document to Documents
  • Saving a document from Documents
  • Adding a document to a gauging
  • Attaching an image in Construction
  • Saving an image from Construction
  • Exporting data from Calculation Results
  • Saving your document to file when printing
  • Exporting a datasheet or chart to a file
  • Saving a Summary Report, Datasheet Report using the Report Wizard, or Query Report using the Report Designer
  • Picture Box and Rich Text controls in the Report Designer
  • Automating data import, data export, and the publication of charts and reports from the Tasks
  • Loading a License

You should note that File Name fields have a limit of 250 Characters.

FTP

You can also specify a file location in any File Dialog window using FTP. When entering a File Name and path, or Target location, the FTP path should be specified as follows:

ftp://username:password@host:port/url-path...

It is possible to specify a filename with a wildcard * attached, for example: ftp://testuser:testpassword@ftp.seveno.com/Examplefolder/*.csv).

Note

When operating in the Microsoft environment, you will use/see a forward slash for a web address or ftp address.  It is only a Microsoft convention that shows a backslash when you type the location of a local folder in a Windows environment.
